Ok I’ve decided to compile a list of… AUSSIE INVENTIONS!!!

This’ll seem weird but I was amazed at how many things we invented.

1838 - James Raymond introduced the pre-paid postal system.

1843 – John Ridley and John Bull from South Australia made the grain stripper.

1856 – James Harrison invented the refrigerator!

1874 – Louis Brennan invented the underwater torpedo.

1902 – J A Birchall made the notepad.  He decided to cut them in half, add some cardboard to the back and glue them at the top.

1906 – The first hour-long feature film, the story of the Kelly gang, was made.

1906 – Lester Ormsby invented the first Surf Life-Saving reel.

1922 – Dr. Cyril P. Callister made vegemite, one of the richest sources of vitamin B.

1924 – Kelly’s motors fitted the first car radio.

1934 – Lewis Brandt invented the Ute by making the front like a car and the rear like truck.

1945 – Lance Hill invents the Hills Hoist a rotary clothesline.

1953 – R N Morseat made solar hot water.

1958 – Dr David Warren made the Black Box flight recorder.

1965 – Jack Grant invents the Inflatable escape slide used in aircrafts and doubles as a raft.

1970 – Wiltshire develops the Staysharp knife.

1972 – Ralph Sarich makes the orbital combustion process engine.

1972 – Amdel Limited made Instream analysis speeding up the rate which metals were analysed and meant greater productivity.

1979 – Geoff Healey invented the race-cam used in sports broadcast and provided excellent views in events such as motor racing.

1979 – Professor Graeme Clark invented of the University of Melbourne invented the Bionic ear.

1982 – The Dualflush toilet was invented saving 32000 litres of water per household a year.  Important for the worlds driest inhabited continent.

1983 – Ben Leren invented the winged keel helping Australia II end the American’s 132 ownership of the Americas cup.

1984 – The Baby Safety Capsule was made to help protect babies in car crashes because they used to bounce around like a soccer ball.

1993 – The University of Queensland reported for the first time the development of a scramjet that achieved more thrust than drag.

1993 – Bruce Macdonald invented the underwater pc at the Australian Institute of Marine Science.

1995 – The world’s most sophisticated anti-counterfeiting technology, the EXELGRAM, was developed by the CSIRO.

1995 – The US spent $11 billion developing a plane undetectable by radar.  The CSIRO developed the Jindalee Radar, which picked up the turbulance the plane made making the stealth bomber nothing more than an unusual looking aircraft.

See we've made alot of important inventions like the dualflush toilet and the underwater pc... lol.  To finish it off ill give you a nice pic of a local bird.

Ok so we take off from the previous article (read it if you haven’t read it already!).

So they would stay at ANZAC cove for around 8 months fighting the Turks in the harsh conditions.  One event in the Gallipoli campaign that is held regretted is the charge of the 3^rd light horse brigade at the Nek.  The 3^rd light horse brigade didn’t have their horses at Gallipoli, as the terrain was too rugged to have them.  On that day 4 waves, 150 men each, from the 8^th regiment and the 10^th regiment were to attack a Turkish trench to help British forces land at a beach. 

The charge was to happen at 4:30am; with a bombardment before the charge to force the tightly packed Turkish soldiers to abandon their trench… but it didn’t go right.  The bombardment went 7 minutes early and thus gave the Turkish plenty of time to get back in their trenches and get ready and man their machine guns. 

So the 8^th regiments first wave went out of the trench and ran for the Turkish trenches and along side them ran Colonel White.  The area was a bottleneck and the Turks had plenty of machine guns and plenty of rifles so the first wave fell.  Exactly 2 minutes after, the second wave did likewise with bravery and without hesitation.  Men fell before leaving the trench. A quote from Lieutenant William Cameron:

We saw them climb out and move forward about ten yards and lie flat. The second line did likewise ... As they rose to charge, the Turkish Machine Guns just poured out lead and our fellows went down like corn before a scythe. The distance to the enemy trench was less than 50 yards yet not one of those two lines got anywhere near it.

During the charge of the second wave though there are rumours that some men had made it to the trench at the very right had side… but sadly they soon fell too… this is only rumour though.

Within another half-an-hour the 2 other waves, from the 10^th regiment, went on with the charge even after seeing their friends fall, and they too, met the same fate.  This charge was self-sacrifice and in the end some sources say the British were sitting on the beach drinking tea… some historians see the charge of the Nek as a waste of life, others not, but I see it as soldiers hearing the call of their fellow man in need and doing what was needed whatever the cost be.

In this I must also state that although the ANZACS had bad conditions for the Turks it was about as bad… or worse.  They only had 1 train to bring supplies, evacuate dead etc. making it very harsh.
